Abstract
402,483. Inductances. BLUMLEIN, A. D., 7, Courtfield Gardens, West Ealing, London. June 10, 1932, No. 16468. [Class 37.] An inductance or loading coil comprising one or more windings surrounded by magnetic material forming the main magnetic circuit is further surrounded substantially completely by a shield so arranged that for low frequencies the ratio of forward path reluctance to return path reluctance is greater for lines of flux further removed from the coil windings. The term forward path is taken as extending through the centre of the coil to points such that the line of flux turns outward at an angle of say 45‹ to the coil axis. In the example, Fig. 1, the main magnetic path lies through a core 2, 3 of compressed magnetic dust. An outer surrounding shield 4 is of higher permeability and an air gap as shown lies in the forward path of the lines of flux further from the coil windings. In modifications two shields are described and the outer edges of one shield may be integral with the main core. In the modification, Fig. 4, the shield is formed by crossed windings 21, 22 of magnetic wire or tape and the air gap is formed by dishing inwards the main magnetic core 17, 18. These coils are rectangular in outer form and are adapted for assembly with others in containers 26, 27 of sheet metal,.
