Abstract
817,218. Transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. March 28, 1956 [March 28, 1955], No. 9701/56. Class 38 (2). A five-legged magnetic core, e.g. for a polyphase transformer is formed from stacked laminations and has three central winding legs 12, 13, 14 which are divided longitudinally providing cooling ducts, the legs being joined to yoke members 15, 16 by inserts 27, 32. The inserts are so shaped that the joints overlap in alternate layers. The laminations and inserts are of rolled grain oriented silicon steel, the orientation of the inserts being reversed in alternate layers to provide alternate favourable flux paths. Several forms of insert are described and shown. In a modification (Figs. 9-13, not shown) the two outer legs are of reduced cross-sectional area. A harmonic suppressor coil may be provided on the core. Specifications 657,856 and 751,960 are referred. to.
