Abstract

401,576. Applying getters to lamp filaments. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Flaws, J. ; 1020, Caledonian Avenue, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, U.S.A.) April 1, 1933, No. 9866. Convention date, April 1, 1932. [Class 39 (ii).] Getter material is applied to the filament of an electric lamp by passing the mount 10, Fig. 1, carrying the filament 11, over a receptacle 17 from which a liquid containing the getter material is projected in an upward direction. A series of mounts 10 is supported within apertures around the periphery of a circular plate 14 which carries them through the machine, the filaments 11 being supported by leading-in wires 12 and supporting-wires 13. A liquid containing the getter material in suspension is contained in a tank 21 provided with a pump 25 comprising radial vanes 25<1> at the lower end of a shaft 28 rotated by an electric motor 27, whereby the liquid is forced up a pipe 20 and distributor passages 19, and through a gauze screen 18 and a slot 16, Fig. 2, in a nozzle 16<1> mounted in the receptacle 17. Liquid not held by the filament falls through gauze screens 24 covering wells 22 on either side of the nozzle 16<1> and is returned to the tank 21 by a pipe 23. Stationary radial vanes 26 within the tank 21 assist the agitation of the liquid by the pump. To compensate for evaporation of the liquid an adjustable feed cup 43 is mounted on a pipe 45 at the top of the tank.
