[Class 140.] A wall or like covering comprises plates 3 of rigid material, such as glass, cemented to a substratum 2 by an adhesive which does not penetrate such substratum, the material of the substratum being extensible and compressible in all directions and of sufficiently loose texture to be completely impregnated and traversed by a pasty adhesive which serves for the fixing of the composite covering to the wall or like surface. The substratum may consist of a ribbed tricot, and a glass sheet is glued to the ridges only of the ribs of the tricot and is subsequently cut into separate plates 3. The substratum is impregnated with an adhesive such as mastic, and the composite covering is then applied to the wall or like surface with a pressure sufficient to cause the adhesive to fill the joints between the separate plates. Decorative effects may be produced by using coloured adhesives, or by securing decorative sheets to the glass sheet prior to the application of the substratum.
