Abstract
<PICT:0398139/III/1> The moisture-content of materials such as wood, textiles &c, is determined by withdrawing the air enclosed in the interstices of the material and causing it to act quickly upon a hygrometric device in a closed chamber. The preferred hygrometric device is a cobalt test paper combined with a colour scale. In the illustrated modification the test paper 8 and scale 7 are enclosed in a chamber 16 having a window 19, and the chamber is provided with a connecting piece 14 which is screwed into a hole 12 bored in a piece of wood to be tested. Suction is applied to the connection 20 withdrawing air from the pores of the wood into the testing chamber. When the material to be tested is in the form of fibres or small pieces it may be placed inside a chamber containing the test paper, the chamber being then evacuated.
