[Class 75 (ii).] Shades, paper and like.-In a Chinese lantern or like decorative lamp the side walls consist of a plurality of sheets a, a<1> of coloured paper or like material connected in pairs at their outer edges b and with their inner edges c<1> adjacent one another in the form of a square or other closed figure, the inner edges of the upper and lower sheets being connected to corresponding end frames f, g. The edges b may be connected by adhesive or a single piece of paper may be pleated to form a pair of sheets, and for a small device the sheets a or the sheets a<1> may be formed from a single piece of paper: The lateral edges i of the sheets are so cut that, when the lantern is opened, they abut flush so that the lantern is practically closed on all sides, and to increase stability the outer edges of the sheets may be formed with lateral projections k adapted to be superposed when the lantern is opened. Fig. 2 indicates how a number of similar or dissimilar devices may be superposed to form an elongated lantern with a continuously open interior. In this case the intermediate frames f may be dispensed with and the inner edges of the sheets joined by adhesive.
