Abstract

394,800. Cylinders. M.G. CAR CO., Ltd., CHARLES, H. N., and COUSINS, H. E. C., Pavlova Works, Abingdon-on- Thames. May 26, 1932, No. 14937. [Class 7 (ii).] In an overhead-valve cylinder head, shown in inverted plan, exhaust and inlet ports 11, 14 have passages leading to opposite sides of the head block, and the sparking-plug points are located at the end of tapering flame grooves 22 opposite the exhaust ports. Each combustion chamber appears in plan as a parallelogram with rounded corners and has a ceiling which is slightly wedge-shaped, the ridges being on the longitudinal centre line 31. The top of the head block is slightly higher on the exhaust side where the cooling-water outlets are arranged ; the flow of the cooling water and the drainage of lubricant from the valve gear are thus facilitated. Holes 30 for holding- down studs are arranged in pairs in transverse planes between the cylinder bores. Cooling water circulates through the head as described in Specification 394,941.
