Abstract
394,028. Arc-welding. DEGLON, C. R., 8, Thirlmere Avenue, Stretford, Manchester, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Dec. 22, 1931, No. 35475. [Class 39 (iii).] In an arc-welding apparatus the positions of the electrodes are adjusted and controlled by a dynamo - electric machine 1 having a field system 3 mechanically rotatable relatively to the armature system 2, one system being driven mechanically and the other driving the electrode feeding-mechanism 4, 5, the electrical conditions of the systems being variable with respect to each other. The field system 3 may be driven by a variable speed motor 9 provided with a controller 10. The field coils 3 are placed in parallel with a resistance 11 in the arc circuit and a field winding 12 of the motor 9 may also be placed in this circuit so that the feeding mechanism can be controlled according to the arc current. The positions of the armature 2 and field 3 may be interchanged and their relative electrical conditions may be controlled by the arc voltage or other similar variable quantity instead of the arc current. When used in atomic hydrogen welding apparatus the machine 1 may be energized from the arc circuit through rectifiers.
