[Class 78 (v).] In winch for use on fishing vessels drums wd for trawling, drums sb for seining, and a rope coiler rc are mounted on a turntable bp through which passes centrally a driving shaft. A worm w can be connected to the shaft by a clutch c controlled by a hand-wheel cw and engages a worm wheel ww on a horizontal shaft hs which is connected by gearing g to the main shaft ms. The drums wd are loose on the shaft ms, but can be secured thereto by clutches dc. The trawl net warps are guided on to these drums during winding by a frame which is guided horizontally and operated through a rack r by a pinion p rotated by a hand-wheel hw. When the winch is used for seining, the clutches dc, are released, and the drums wd held by brakes actuated by handwheels bw. The drums sb are fast on the main shaft. Each coiling head of the rope coiler may be driven by chain gearing from its own barrel, or both heads may be mounted on a single shaft which is driven by chain gearing cd from the shaft ms. A clutch is provided in order that this latter drive may be disconnected when trawling.
