Abstract
392,538. Cleaning-appliances. WAGLAND, C. H., 14, Mount Ephraim Lane, Streatham Hill, London. Nov. 16, 1931, No. 31663. [Class 19.] An appliance for cleaning windows and like surfaces comprises a hollow rod 1, Fig. 1, carrying an electrically-operated air-impeller 2, an electric heater 3, an air moistening chamber 4, and a wiping element 5. The chamber 4 is packed with sponge 8 charged with water or other cleaning liquid. The moist hot air passes through a pipe 9 communicating by one or more apertures with the face of the wiper. In a modification shown in Fig. 2, the wiper pad 5 is secured to the shaft 12 of an electric motor 11 which drives a fan 14 whereby air is drawn through the heater 3 and forced through the moistening chamber 8, to issue from a pipe 15 adjacent to the wiper In a further construction, the wiper is connected by universal joints to an eccentric portion of a head carried by the motor so that it is given a gyratory motion over the surface being cleaned. The motor may be arranged to drive the wiper through a flexible shaft. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, the wiper is of wedge shape with two cleaning surfaces 5, one of which is cut away at 23 to allow moist air to be supplied to the surface being cleaned. A further form of wiper shown in Fig. 6 comprises two pads 5 carried by pivoted arms 24 which are spring- pressed towards each other. In a further modification the wiper pad is secured to a hollow elongated member formed with a number of apertures by which the air is directed on to the surface being wiped.
