'I'his invention relates to new and useful improvements in vacuum brushes that is primarily adapted for the cleaning of the human hair to remove therefrom dandruif articles,

6 and loose strands or pieces of hair a ter it has been cut by the barber. However, the brush may be ada ted for other uses, such as the cleaning of rsand the like. Also, thebrush may be employed on animals to remove therefrom loose particles of hair and other foreign matter, after the animal has been clipped, or as a matter of fact at any time. An important object of this invention is to provide a vacuum brush of this character that is extremely simple of construction and inexpensive of manufacture, and one that is well adapted for the cleaning of human and animal hair, as well as for the cleaning of furs, draperies, or other articles.

With the foregoin and other objects in view as the nature o the invention will be better understood from the following specication when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, and wherein:

Now having particular reference to the drawings, my novel brush consists of a suitable backing 5 constructed or equipped with a handle 6. This backing 5 is formed centrally with an openin 7, within which is arranged a rubber co lar 8 that aiiords a means for securing the inner end of a narrow rubber tube 9 within said ofening. This tube is formed at the center o a strip of heavy rubber or canvas 10, of a shape generally similar to the shape of the backing, the outer edge of this strlp being secured to the backing in any desired manner such as at 11.

The tube 9 projects considerably beyond the inner face nf the backin so as to maintain the strip spaced there rom, said strip providing a cushion brush head, with which are associated suitable bristles 12 of fine wire or other material, the ends of which are blunt so as not to scrape the scalp or skin of the human being or animal, over which the brush is moved. It will be obvious that in use', the rubbing ofthe brush overthe scalp I'or other surface belng cleaned will stir upthe loose particles 05 of hair or other foreign matter, causin the same to be sucked through the brush, an con veyed by the tube 16 to a suitable receptacle.

In view of the foregoing description when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it will thus be seen that I have provided 'a novel, simple, useful and highly eiicient vacuum brush that is well adapted for all of the purposes ,heretofore designated, and even though I have hereinshown and described the invention as consisting of certain detailed structural elements, it is nevertheless to be understood that some changes may be made therein, without aecting the spint and scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:

1. In a brush of the character described, a backing having a centrally disposed opening. a coupling sleeve mounted on one side of the backing and disposed ove-r the opening for connecting a suction pipe to the backing in communication with the opening, a flexible tube positioned in the openmg and projecting beyond the opposite side of the backing, a iiexible collar disposed in the opening for anchoring the tube therein, a iexible strip having a centrally vdisposed opening and connected at its outer marginal edge portion, to the marginal portions of the backing and at its inner marginal portion to the free end of the tube and bristles mounted on-the strip and 1m 2. In a brush of the character described, a backing having a centrally disposed opening, a exible backing strip havmg its outer marginal edge secured to the under side of 5 said acking and rovided with an inwardly extending tube w ich extends into and fits against the walls of said opening, means for securing said tube within said opening so that said strip is caused to bulge outwardly' from the underside of said backing, bristles extending from said strip, and a-suction ipe connection extending from the upper si e of said backing in communication with said opening to which a suction pipe is adapted to be connected for creating a suction through said tube.

In a brush of the character described, a backing having a centrally disposed opening, a fiexible backing strip having its outer marginal edge secured to the under side of said backing and rovided with an inwardly extendin tube wliich extends into and fits against t e walls of said opening, means for securing said tube within said opening so that said stri is caused to bulge outwardly from the un verside of said backing, said backing having air openings therein opening into the space between said backing and said exible strip, bristles extending from said strip, and a suction pipe connection extending from the upper side of said backing in communication with said opening to which a suction pipe is adapted to be connected for creating a suction through said tube.
