Abstract

392,151. Self-closing valves. WINN & CO., Ltd., C. and MOUSLEY, N. K., 140, Granville Street, Birmingham. Nov. 9, 1931, No. 30977. [Class 135.] Valves closing after predetermined interval or flow ; closure members.-In a self-closing valve or tap of the kind opened by hand and assisted to close by a spring, as 24, the valve head 19 is fitted with a cylindrical extension 27, integral or as shown, having a number of longitudinal grooves 17 of tapering depth so that the flow is controlled without abrupt changes and the valve can close without shock. In the arrangement shown'the valve head is formed as a dash-pot piston 25 operating in a cylinder 26 to give a regulated closure without shocks, but the dash-pot cylinder arrangement is not essential. The rotary sleeve handle 20 carries a removable pin 22 operating in helical slots 23 and bearing against a head 10 adjustable on the spindle 9 to vary the maximum amount of opening of the valve. An adjustable stop in the form of a nut 28 on a rotary screwed pin 29 can also be set to abut against the outer end of the casing 21 to limit further the opening movement of the valve.
