Abstract

390,998. Thermionic valves. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE, 12, Hallesches Ufer, Berlin. Aug. 8, 1932, No. 22225. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] A " variable mu " valve is provided with an inner grid Sp coaxial with and surrounding the cathode K and of mesh varying over its length, and with a cylindrical grid G and anode A coaxial with and successively surrounding the grid Sp, the valve being connected in a circuit so that the grid Sp is a space-charge grid and that control potentials are applied to the grid G. The grid Sp is a helix of varying pitch. Specification 279,899, [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also non-uniform spacing of the space-charge grid from the cathode and the use, together with the non-uniform spacecharge grid, of other means for obtaining the " variable-mu " effect, e.g. a cathode of different emissivity at different parts, an anode with non-uniform openings and a control or screen grid non-uniform as regards mesh or distance from the cathode. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
