Abstract

389,266. Groins. HIGHAM, E. A., 2, High Street, Shoreham-by-Sea. Feb. 24, 1932, No. 5548. [Class 68 (ii).] A column or pillar for . making a groin comprises a reinforced concrete or metal tube fitted at the lower end with a metal shoe, and with side parts interconnecting it to similar side parts on columns or pillars driven near it. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, each column consists of sections 1, 2 with spigot and socket parts 3, 4, the lowest section 1 being fitted with a metal shoe 5 with a bevelled edge. These columns are driven side by side, the dovetails 6 fitting into the dovetail section grooves 7 on the adjacent columns. Alternatively double-dovetail section connecting bars are driven into adjacent dovetailsection grooves 7. The parts 6, 7 may be variously arranged on the cylinders to enable them to form walls in the form, for example of rings.
