Abstract
386,936. Draw-gear for railway &c. vehicles. KRUPP AKT.-GES., F., Essen, Germany. Nov. 12, 1932, No. 32047. Convention date, Jan. 21. [Class 103 (v).] The guiding surfaces A for aligning automatic coupler heads C of railway &c. vehicles are constituted by one or more resilient plates rigidly connected to the coupler heads, such plates assisting in the absorption of shocks and being less liable to fracture than cast materials. In the construction shown each guide A comprises a downwardly inclined portion a<2>, an horizontal portion a<4> connected by rivets D to the head C, and a vertical depending flange a<1> connected by rivets B to a vertical projection c<1> of the coupler head. The rivets D take the shearing stresses due to the horizontal forces generated by the action of the inclined edge a<3> of the portion a2, while the rivets B are subject to shearing stresses arising from the buffing forces normal to the plane of the guide portion a2. A second resilient plate E may be employed to reinforce the plate A, and be secured by the sets of rivets B, D.
