Abstract
386,014. Pipe joints. BAILEY, R. W., 20, Grange Avenue, Hale, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. July 20, 1931, No. 20750. [Class 99 (i).] In a pipe joint in which a ring is interposed between the abutting end faces of the pipes and has its free edges welded to the two pipes respectively, the ring has a radial depth not substantially greater than the thickness of the pipe wall and has portions which are flexible and thin compared with the pipe wall. The ring 6 may have its edges bent over and welded to the pipes. at 7, 8, Fig. 2. The ring member may comprise a pair of rings 10, 11, Fig. 9, welded together at one edge and welded to the pipes at the other. The edges of the rings may be thickened. The member may consist of more than two rings the inner and outer edges alternately of adjacent rings being welded together. A corrugated ring of the form shown in Fig. 8 may be used. A U-shaped or corrugated ring is prevented from completely collapsing by arranging the bolted flanges to abut or by recessing the ends of the pipes, Fig. 26. The edges of two rings may be recessed to receive a U-shaped joining strip 16, Fig. 16, or they may be formed with semi-circular portions 18, Fig. 17, at their outer edges.
