[Class 31 (ii).] In a loose-leaf filing and perforating device having perforating-dies on the filing- posts, the dies are of substantially equal diameter and cutting-edges are provided on the meeting parts of the dies. The dies b, b<1> are attached by screw-threading, bayonet joints &c. The dies are sharpened at the edges c, c<1>, the lower die b<1> being provided with a conical front surface f, and the upper die b being hollow and having disposed therein a spring d. The spring d normally projects beyond the cutting-edge c<1> so that it can be engaged by the conical surface f of the die b<1> and compressed during the perforating of the papers &c. ; on the withdrawal of the lower die b<1>, the spring expels the cut-out portion of the paper &c. A small disc g may be attached to the end of the spring d and may be bevelled at the inner portion to co-operate with and be guided by a bevelled inner portion of the top die b. The dies are tapered off behind the cutting- edges to the diameter of the filing-rods, to facilitate the filing of the papers after perforation. The dies may be pivotally mounted and moved and guided into engagement. The spring d, or a number of such springs, may be arranged in notches or slots in the die band engaged over a guide stud disposed inside the die.
