Abstract
385,246. Making wheels. VEREINIGTE STAHLWERKE AKT.-GES., 67, Breitestrasse, Dusseldorf, Germany. Aug. 19, 1932, No. 23305. Convention date, March 10. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Forging ; corrugating; dies.-Wheels with radial corrugations are made by rolling the wheel without corrugations with a relatively wide rim, corrugating the wheel and rim by pressing and then removing the surplus material from the rim. A disc wheel rolled to the form 3, shown dotted in Fig. 1, is pressed between the two halves 1, 2 of a die to produce radial corrugations. The die surfaces 6, 7 enclosing the edges of the wheel rim are corrugated circumferentially so that both the rim and the disc part are given the corrugated form, The hollow cone shape of the enclosing die surfaces facilitates the placing and ejection of the wheel, a bulge 11 may also be formed on the rim to assist in the latter operation.
