Abstract

383,347. Rollers. CAMCO (MACHINERY), Ltd., 63, Farringdon Street, London.- (Toronto Type Foundry Co., Ltd.; York Street, Toronto, Canada.) Sept. 10, 1931, No. 25455. [Class 42 (ii).] A roller for folding sheets in paper-folding machines has cork or cork substance embodied in its sheet-engaging surface. The roller may be constructed entirely of cork or cork composition, or in the form of a sleeve or sleeve sections 25 mounted on a core 20 of metal or other unyielding material. Inclined interlocking faces may be formed on the ends of the sections 25 to prevent individual rotation of the sections and interengaging projections and grooves may be provided to improve the interlocking. In a modified construction, the roller is built up of wedge-shaped sectors of cork mounted on a rigid core. Further, the cork covering may be built up by projecting ground cork and a suitable binding agent from reciprocating nozzles on to the core which is being rotated. In another construction, the cork in the form of a strip is wound on the core. End caps 22 secure the cork sleeves, sectors, &c. in place on the core. If desired, a part or parts only of the roller surface may be formed of cork or cork composition and such parts may alternate with metal parts.
