Abstract
383,332. Internally-expanding brakes. VILSTRUP, A. F., 7, Nytorv, Copenhagen. Aug. 22, 1931, No. 23678. Convention date, June 8. [Class 103 (i).] In a free-wheel hub with a back-pedalling brake of the type in which braking-members are pressed outwards against the inner surface of the hub 3 when a conical coupling-sleeve 6 is moved towards a fixed conical member 2, the braking-members consist of a number of narrow strips 8 of wedge-shaped cross section adapted to be pressed outwards by a series of wedge-shaped members 7, the ends of which coact with the conical members 2, 6. The members 7, 8 are held together by annular springs 9, 10. The ends of the actuating- wedges 7 are inclined to conform with the conical members and are also bevelled on each side to form angular ridges adapted to coact with similarly-shaped recesses formed on the conical members ; the ends of the braking- members 8 may also be similarly shaped, so that the brake is capable of acting even if the members 7 become disabled by wear.
