Abstract

382,549. Winding yarns on to multiple-end packages. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., 22, Hanover Square, London. April 11, 1932, No. 10395. Convention date, April 11, 1931. [Classes 120 (ii), 120 (iii), and 142 (iv).] In winding yarns on to multipleend packages a number of yarns 9, Fig. 1, are condensed into a flat band and wound on to a large diameter reel 14, the band being then wound from the reel on to a take-up bobbin 19 along which it is traversed. The supply bobbins 5 in the creel 8 are braked by weighted bands 16, 18, Fig. 3, so that the yarns are wound at equal tension. After the yarn has been wound on the reel 14 the driving mechanism is disconnected and the reel braked at 21 to tension the band of yarn in passing to the bobbin 19. The band of yarn may be further condensed before winding on the bobbin 19. The yarns may be treated during the process with coating substances, e.g. tricresyl phosphate, mineral oils or other substances having a high dielectric strength may be applied to yarns intended for use as insulating material.
