Abstract
381,998. Fire-extinguishing. KIDDE & CO., Inc., W., 140, Cedar Street, New York, U.S.A. Aug. 10, 1931, No. 22538. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1930. [Class 47 (ii).] A method of extinguishing fires on aircraft, without the necessity for providing special cowling for the engine, consists in supplying a self-vaporizable extinguishing medium, such as liquid carbon dioxide, to outlets which discharge it in such directions and volume as to offset the ventilation caused by the slip stream. The medium is carried in a container and is led by piping, in its liquid form, to the outlets. Here it immediately vaporizes, enveloping the engine in an inert atmosphere.
