381,552. Cornish and Lancashire boilers ; sectional boilers. KITCHEN, J., Holmfield, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, and BALMFORTH & CO., Ltd., T., Luton. May 4,1931, No. 13165. [Class 123 (ii).] A boiler for use in steam and hot water circulating systems comprises one or more horizontal annular water chambers 3 through which combustion gases pass and a waterjacketed economizer unit 15 which forms a smokebox and in which the ends of the boiler units 3 are engaged. Each unit 3 may contain one or more secondary chambers 9 provided with passages 10, 11 communicating with the main water chamber. Refractory liners 6, 12 are provided to protect the boiler plates at the most heated spots and to aid combustion by allowing the gases to impinge on an incandescent surface. Each unit 3 is provided with a single oil-heating burner 5. Water enters the economizer unit through header 18, leaves through header 19 and passes to the inlet 20 of the boiler, leaving this by outlet 24 to enter the heating system. When used as a steam boiler, a steam drum is provided at the outlet 24. The units 3 may be arranged in series or parallel or in series-parallel as regards the water flow.
