Abstract
381,344. Knitting-machines. HOSIERY MACHINE CORPORATION, Cumberland, Rhode Island, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Miller, M. C.; Cumberland, Rhode Island, U.S.A.) Oct. 16, 1931, No. 28816. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1930. [Class 74 (ii).] A comb 84 for aligning and supporting the needles and transfer elements 54 of a Cotton machine is secured to a bar 88 movable against a spring 94 in a bracket 56 supporting the transfer points. The coverplate for the sinkers acts as a stop for the bar 88 as the transfer points are moved downwardly from their inoperative position. In action, the needles 24 enter between the spade-shaped ends 102 of the aligning instruments and are thus caused to register accurately with the transfer points 54. During the narrowing operation the needles are supported near their hook ends by combs 112 which are moved up for that purpose. The combs 84, 112 are capable of slight lateral movement to accommodate them to slight variations of the needle line from the vertical. Fig. 1 (notshown) is a sectional view of the machine showing the general arrangement of cams and links for driving the needle bar, combs 112, &c.
