Abstract
380,721. Moulding wheel tyres &c. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO., 1144, East Market Street, Akron, Ohio, U.S.A. March 4, 1932, No. 6539. Convention date, June 17, 1931. [Class 87 (ii).] In moulds, more especially for wheel tyres, of the kind provided with annular recesses into which shoulders on segmental tread - forming matrices fit, the shoulders or recesses or both are tapered to effect a wedging action, thus securing the matrices in the mould so that they will not buckle or become loose or displaced during the operations of vulcanizing and removal of the tyre. The mould comprises two parts 10, 11 fitted with registering flanges 14 and connected by bolts 16. The outer ends of the matrices 18 are flanged and are secured in recesses in the mould walls by screws 44 acting in conjunction with rings 43. The wedge-shaped inner ends 33 are forced into the wedge-shaped annular recesses 23 until the shoulders 39 abut against the upper edge 30 of the recess. The recesses are set at such an angle to the axis of the mould that tightening of the screws 44 automatically forces the ends 33 into the recess.
