[Class 97 (i).] Anamorphotic systems; lenses.-An afocal anamorphotic objective, corrected for achromatism, astigmatism, spherical aberration, coma, and distortion consists of a positive cylindrical lens 21 and a negative cylindrical lens 22. The positive lens consists of a double convex element of crown glass cemented to a meniscus element of flint glass, and the negative lens consists of a meniscus element of flint glass cemented to a double concave element of crown glass. The refractive index of the crown glass exceeds 1.55 and that of the flint glass is from 0 to 2.5 per cent greater than that of the crown glass. In each lens the power of the cemented surface is of opposite sign to that of the lens as a whole. The correction for achromatism is centred at the short wave length end of the portion of the spectrum for which the objective is designed to be used. Numerical data are given.
