Abstract

377,864. Mixing. BOYD, F. L., 1632, Sansom Street, Philadelphia, U.S.A. Nov. 6, 1931, No. 30856. [Class 86.] In a foam-generating apparatus of the kind in which dry powder from a hopper 36 is drawn by suction into a high velocity stream of water issuing from a jet 46, the powdercharged stream is given a twisting or whirling motion, as it leaves the venturi 40, by means of twisted vanes 44. A hinged check valve 28 is arranged behind the vanes. The venturi is provided in a sleeve 39, which is rotatably mounted in the casing 19 and which has an opening 48 adapted to register with the outlet 31 from the hopper 36. The sleeve can be rotated, to close the outlet from the hopper and cut off the powder supply, by means of an arm 49. The two sleeves 39 of a duplex apparatus are linked by a lever 52 for operation in unison. The hopper is removably secured to the casing 19 by means of lugs 37 and a screwed ring 33 with a slotted flange 34. Specification 326,578, [Class 47 (ii), Fire-extinguishing &c.], is referred to.
