[Class 55 (ii).] The carbonaceous residue from a rotary drum furnace, in which volatilizable metals or their compounds are heated with carbon, is discharged into a gas producer which is preferably operated to give water gas. The gases obtained may be passed into and burnt in the rotary furnace.
