Abstract
377,096. Instantaneous steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London.-(Babcock & Wilcox Co. ; 85, Liberty Street, New York, U.S.A.) Jan. 8, 1932, No. 646. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii).] In a drumless water-tube boiler, the feed pump 5 forces more water through the boiler tubes 12 than is evaporated, the excess water passing with the steam through a pipe 20 into a separator 7, in which water is evaporated by injecting superheated steam from the boiler superheater through a perforated pipe 36. The valve 10 regulating the delivery of feed from the pump is controlled in accordance with the temperature of the steam and water in the boiler outlet header 19. The quantity of superheated steam flowing into the separator through the pipe 36 is controlled by a valve 33 operated by a thermal device in the superheater outlet header 30. The water space of the separator is connected to the inlet side of the feed pump by a pipe 4<1>, which is also connected with outlet side of the pump by a cross pipe 15 containing a valve 16. Water from the separator may thus be recirculated through the boiler, and by opening the valve 16 and closing the valve 18 in the pipe 4<1>, feedwater may be fed directly to the separator.
