[Class 81 (ii).] In rotary connecting means for artificial limbs, two portions or members of a limb are formed with co-operating screw threads of large diameter and have co-operating means whereby they may be locked yieldingly or positively in various positions of rotary adjustment. A cylindrical member 1, formed with lugs 2 carrying the forearm member 5, is slightly reduced at its upper end and threaded at 6 to co-operate with a thread 7 on a sleeve member 8 carrying an upper arm bucket. A flange 9 and its bearing plate 10 are formed with holes 12 adapted to receive a spring-pressed bolt or detent 13 in the member 1. The parts can thereby be locked in various positions of rotary adjustment. Rotation is limited to about 90‹ by the provision of screws 15 positioned in a cut-away portion of the flange 9 so as to engage its ends. A locking bolt mounted in the member 1 and normally pressed into one of the holes 12 may be provided. This bolt is formed with a handle 20 passing through an L-shaped slot so that it can be retained in unlocked position. The member 1 may be recessed on the central portion of its upper face. As shown in Fig. 7, a hand or other member 25 is secured to a disc 31 threaded at 30 to co-operate with a thread 29 in a member 27 secured to the forearm 26. A bolt 33, mounted in an extension 34 of the member 31, co-operates with holes 37 in the flange 36. The bolt may be fitted upon a spring plate of the like. The connecting means may be employed at other parts of an arm or in a leg, for example above the knee joint.
