Abstract

376,770. Magnetic tests. SPERRY PRODUCTS, Inc., Manhattan Bridge Plaza, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Drake, H. C. ; 65, Lincoln Boulevard, Hempstead, Long Island, New York, U.S.A.) March 13, 1931, No. 3114/32. Convention date, March 18, 1930. Divided on 374,172 and addition to 317,070, [Class 37, Electricity, Measuring &c.]. [Class 37.] The flaw detector mechanism claimed in the parent Specification is mounted so that it is maintained a substantially constant distance from the rail under test. The brush carriage engages the rail through which the testing current is passed, and means are provided for moving the detector carriage independently of the brush carriage, the detector carriage being mounted on the brush carriage. In one construction, Fig. 3, the carriage 70 carrying the detector coil box 12 is provided with bolts 75 which pass freely through bushes 76 on the support 71 secured to the brush carriage, springs 78 permitting limited movement of the detector carriage 70. The carriage 70 may have solid or grooved wheels 72, or shoes may be provided. The detector coils may be carried on rollers 95, Fig. 6, pivotally mounted on the detector carriage and spring biassed into engagement with the rail, or they may be carried in a block associated with, but separate from, the spring biassed rollers.
