[Class 40 (iii).] In a combined telephone and two-way television system in which an observer 4 is enclosed in a compartment associated with transmitting and receiving scanning discs 2, 8, the telephone instruments, viz. a microphone 27 and a loudspeaker 26, are placed out of range of the scanning discs. The object is scanned by light from a source 1 passing through an apertured disc 2, a lens 50, directing prism 5 and a blue filter 6, which prevents the object being dazzled. Light-sensitive cells 18, connected in parallel to an amplifier 40, are located in the walls of the compartment. The observer 4 sees the received image through a lens 9, adjustable vertically. The microphone 27 and loudspeaker 26 are mounted behind a screen 22 in the same plane and with their axes parallel to prevent interference. The compartment is preferably built so as to damp the sounds from the loud-speaker. The loud-speaker is located in the plane of the image and a screen 34 prevents the noise of the motors driving the scanning discs reaching the microphone. Specification 375,422 is referred to.
