Abstract
Laundry articles and other fibrous materials are cleansed by treatment with an enzyme solution followed, without removing the enzyme solution, by treatment with a soap solution at a temperature approximating to that at which the enzyme is most effective. Protective colloids and additional substances such as soda or sodium bicarbonate may be included in the enzyme solution. The materials are preferably agitated during the treatment. In an example, laundry articles are treated for 5-10 minutes at 35-40 DEG C. in a solution containing pancreas enzymes and soda, and soap solution is then added and the treatment continued at the same temperature.
