Abstract

373,186. Colour r kinematography. THORNTON, J. E., 8, Hill Street, Jersey. Feb. 12, 1931, No 4391. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (ii).] Images from the same view point are taken through a single lens on to superposed, differently sensitized, films in a camera having one or two supply spools placed so that their axes are intersected by the optical axis of the lens, and one or two take-up reels also so placed that their axes, produced if necessary, are intersected by the lens axis. The films may be exposed in a camera of the type described in Specifications 274,391 and 274,528, [both in Class 97 (i), Optical systems &c.], and comprising one supply spool and one take-up reel. Constructions of camera of this type having a single continuous-feed sprocket, a pair of such sprockets, and two pairs, are described in the Specification. Other constructions of camera having two supply spools, two take-up reels, or two spools and two reels, are also described in the Specification ; in some constructions the reels are beside the spools, so that the extensions of their axes are intersected by the lens axis, and in some constructions daylight loading and unloading cases are provided to house the spools and reels. Fig. 12 shows a horizontal section of a camera having two supply spools SI, S2, two take-up reels R<1>, R2, and a sight-tube H with mirrors h<1>, h<2> enabling the image on the films to be viewed at an eyepiece h ; a sliding shutter h<3> may be provided. The films may be arranged face to face, one, preferably the front one, being sensitized for blue-green and the other for orange-red, a separate yellow filter being arranged before the films, or the front film base being stained or having a coloured layer attached to it ; a green filter, formed as an extra layer, or by staining the celulloid support or the emulsion of the front film with a non-sensitizing dye, may be provided for the back film.
