[Class 135.] Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.- In apparatus for drawing off the distillates from coke ovens, and of the kind described in the parent Specification, in which the distillates are withdrawn by suction from ducts in the charge, and a variable resistance to the gas space over the oven charge, a membrane or other elastic member is used for varying this resistance. Gas from ducts 5 in the charge 3 passes by pipe 6, collectors 7, pipes 9, 11 to a liquid leaving by pipes 15, 16 to a main 17. The gases from the collecting space 4 escape through conduit 36 to a main 37. Pressure in the space 4 facts through pipe 18 on a diaphragm 20, which, if raised by increased pressure, operates by a rod 21, a double piston valve 22 which admits fluid from a pipe 25 to above a.piston 29, the rod of which is depressed, raising by a lever 33 a slide valve 35 in the outlet pipe 15, and lowering resistance to the flow from the ducts. Thereby the vacuum in the ducts, and the passage of gas through the charge 3 is increased, and the pressure in the collecting space lowered. Increase of pressure in space 4, similarly, by lowering of the valve 35 causes an increase of pressure in the ducts 5.
