Abstract
371,907. Metal barrels &c. DAVIES, T., Widnes Iron Works, Widnes, Lancashire. Dec. 16, 1930, No. 37896. [Class 21.] A metal drum, barrel, &c. of the kind having a reinforcing hoop or ring 2 at the upper part of the body has the metal of the rim 1<x> of the body turned over the ring, the edge of the lid 3 being of corresponding shape so that it fits over the turnedover part of the edge of the body. An annular zone of the body may be dished outwardly to support the lower edge of the ring or a series of domes 8 may be provided for this purpose. A packing ring 6 of textile material, rubber, composition, soft metal, &c. may be used and the lid may be held in place by hooks 4 of bendable material which are riveted or attached removably to the container. In a modified form shown in Fig. 4 the ring 2 forms part of the turned-over rim of the body. A heat-resistant coating may be applied to the inside of the body.
