Abstract

371,571. Splints ; tension apparatus. BOSWELL, Ltd., D. and ALEXANDER, J. B., 36, East Dock Street, Dundee. March 30, 1931, No. 9538. [Class 81 (ii).] In a splint of the type comprising a U-shaped frame including side members 1, 2, and an attachable cross member 3, the attachable limb-engaging member is constituted by a semiannular segment 4, Fig. 3, for use in first aid, or by two segments 5, Figs. 5 and 7, coupled together by T-piece couplings for hospital use. Connection between. the various parts is effected by coupling members 6. For first aid equipment, a U-shaped support is provided for the splint, whilst the hospital splint has a U-shaped leg-supporting member 16 pivoted at 17 and fitted with an adjustable U-shaped bracket 19 to prevent foot drop. In the hospital splint coplanar relation of the members 1, 2 is maintained by connecting the member 2 through a gooseneck 2<1> to the member 5. The member 3 has an inwardly directed joggle 10 to serve as anchorage for a tension-applying strap or for engagement by a clamp 11 which anchors an elastic strand 12 through which continuous traction may be applied. The hospital splint is fitted with hooks 20 whereby it may be suspended from a wall or ceiling.
