Abstract
371,559. Bearing linings. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.- (General Motors Corporation ; Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) March 20, 1931, No. 8601. [Class 12 (i).] A bearing having a plastic bronze bearing surface C permanently united to a steel shell B is made by heating the shell B to a temperature at least equal to the melting point of the bronze and in bringing the bronze which is heated considerably above its melting point into direct contact with the heated shell. The shell is allowed to stand for a short time to allow the metals to fuse together and is then immersed in a cold bath to prevent the separation of the lead in the bronze. A suitable bronze consists chiefly of copper and lead with or without tin and nickel. The lining C of bronze may be applied on the outer side or on both inner and outer surfaces of the shell B.
