Abstract
Mustard oils, i.e. alkyl or aryl isothiocyanates having the formula R,NCS where R is a hydrocarbon radical, are added as inhibitors to sulphuric acid in pickling or cleaning metals. Allyl, phenyl, tolyl and naphthyl mustard oils are referred to and the inhibitors may be added in solution in concentrated sulphuric acid or mixed with or dispersed in protective colloids such as sulphite cellulose waste, molasses residues, sulphonated vegetable oils, wetting agents, &c.ALSO:Mustard oils, i.e. alkyl or aryl isothiocyanates having the formula R.NCS where R is a hydrocarbon radical, are added as inhibitors to sulphuric, hydrochloric, acetic or other dilute non-oxidizing acid or acid sulphate solution used in pickling or cleaning metals. Allyl, phenyl, tolyl and naphthyl mustard oils are referred to and the inhibitors may be added in solution in concentrated sulphuric acid or mixed with or dispersed in protective colloids such as sulphite cellulose waste, molasses residues, sulphonated vegetable oils, wetting agents, &c.
