Abstract
370,753. Aerials. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London.-(Assignees of Lindenblad, N. E. ; Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York, U.S.A.) July 1, 1931, No. 19019. Convention date, July 1, 1930. [Class 40 (v).] In a directive aerial adapted to take a sleetmelting current, pairs of half-wave lateral antennae 18, 20 are connected at both their inner and outer ends to feed-lines 22, 24. With a half-wave spacing, the phase distribution, as shown in dotted lines, gives end-on radiation. With a wave-length spacing the radiation is broadside. Radiation from the outer feeders 24, which would impair the directional characteristic of the system, is prevented by quarterwave fold-backs 30 and parallel neutralizing- wires 32. The centre feed-line 22 is terminated by a quarter-wave loop 220, which is non- radiating, and carries the sleet-melting current, supplied from a source 8 through chokes 10 and a variable resistance 14. High-frequencyenergy is supplied to the whole system from a source 2. The radiators 18, 20 may be a quarter-wave in length, in which case the terminating leads 220 are either zero or one or more half-waves in length.
