Abstract
452,791. Aerials; directive signalling. BLUMLEIN, A. D., 32, Audley Road, Ealing, London. Feb. 28, 1935, No. 6403. [Class 40 (v)] A directional aerial is built up of a series of half-wave elements comprising an inner conductor 1<1> ... 5<1> and an outer sheath 1 ... 5, each element acting as a feeder for the one beyond it. The inner conductor and outer sheath of each successive element are alternately connected together, as shown for instance at 6, 7, 8, 9, so that the radiation from the part that forms the outer sheath is greater than that from the inner or screened conductor. The currents in all the outer elements are substantially in phase. The change-over of the connections between each aerial-element is made through an insulating disc, Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternate elements may be set slightly out of line so as to simplify the change-over connections. In Fig. 4, the outer sheath is replaced by a number of wires 25 and 28, each having a centre conductor 30 and 27 respectively, the change-over connections being taken over slots in a spreader-ring to the centre points 26, 29. A quarter-wave extension 19 may be used at the end of the feed-line 22, 18, as described in Specification 438,506. The aerial shown in Fig. 1 may form part of an extended aerial array.
