368,898. Protective arrangements ; charging and discharging condensers. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., Prescot, WELBOURN, B., The Croft, Rainhill, both in Lancashire, and HIGHAM, H., Sandy Mount, Helsby, Cheshire. Jan. 8, 1931, No. 693. [Class 38 (iv).] A condenser arrangement for use in alternating current power circuits comprises in combination a power condenser 1 and a tuned filter arrangement of condenser and induction coil protecting the power condenser from one or more harmonics of the supply frequency. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, the condenser 2 and induction coil 3 are tuned to form a byepass for the harmful harmonic frequency, whilst Fig. 2 illustrates the parallel resonance combination tuned to possess a high impedance to the harmonic. In Fig. 3 a transformer coupling between the parallel resonance circuit of condenser 5 and inductance 6, and the line 4 enables a voltage appropriate to the design of the condenser 5 to be applied. The different arrangements may be combined to afford protection from more than one frequency, and any one induction coil can be used in more than one protective circuit.
