L. ; 71, Indiana Avenue, Long Beach, both in New York, U.S.A.) Feb. 6, 1931, No. 3831. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1930. Addition to 349,937. [Class 87 (ii).] Fuel is delivered from a hopper 100 by the lower run of a scraper conveyer 90 to a series of compartmented links forming an endless belt 60 when it is compressed into separate briquettes by passing under a compression roller 116 and above an adjustable supporting member 130. The belt then carries the compressed briquettes round the periphery of an internally heated carbonizing drum 14, the coked residue being broken away from the belt by distorting rollers 76, and falling on to the upper reach of the conveyer 90, to be discharged through a hopper 106. In an example, a layer of fuel 1“ inch thick is compacted to 1 inch and heated for ten minutes at a temperature of 1385‹ F.
