Abstract
366,152. Cleaning heat exchangers. KOCHS & CO., Ltd., W. E., 301, Glossop Road, Sheffield.-(F÷ge, H. ; of Warmefang und Ventilatorbau, Am Brinken Hafen, Hanover, Germany.) Nov. 4, 1930, No. 33152. [Class 99 (ii).] In a heat exchanger of the type comprising a number of gilled pipes b, the pipes are cleaned bv chains a or like flexible members which are mounted in series in the spaces between the rows, each chain being adapted to move longitudinally and also from side to side of the space accommodating it so as to make contact with the adjacent sides of the pipes defining the space. Fig. 1 shows the chain suspended from a rotatable crank c, and Fig. 2 a modification in which the chain is suspended from a double swinging crank d by its ends to form a loop enclosing one complete row of pipes. The chains may be caused also to swing by securing them to rings e which are mounted in inclined grooves k on eccentrics e<1>, Figs. 6 and 7, or by imparting an axial movement to the crankshafts. The chains are preferably made with rectangular corners and roughened surfaces and provided with brushes.
