Abstract
366,079. Aircraft wing structures. MESSERSCHMITT, W., 118A, Haunstetterstrasse, Augsburg, Germany. Aug. 25, 1930, No. 25289. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1929. [Class 4.] An aircraft structure comprises a single main spar and leading and trailing members substantially devoid of longitudinal strength but of considerable lateral rigidity detachably connected to the spar at its flanges alone. As applied to a wing, front and rear girders d, e, Fig. 1, are bolted to plates b attached to flanges of spar a. A releasable connection may be provided at f. Separate longitudinally extending strips g may be placed under each row of nuts or broad strips, Fig. 3, serving for two adjacent rows may be fitted. In a modification every third rib may be connected to. the spar web by angle-pieces i. Hinges may be employed instead of bolts. Manholes may be provided in the covering where required. The bolts are secured by screwing or welding to prevent their dropping on to the wing. Specification 315,793, [Class 4, Aeronautics], is referred to.
