Abstract
363,914. Discharge lamps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. March 16, 1931, No. 8089. Convention date, April 4, 1930. [Class 39 (i).] In a vapour-filled lamp which may be used for the production of ultraviolet rays, deposition of vapour on the wall 1, through which the rays emerge, is prevented by the provision between the m a i n discharge and the wall of one or more pairs of cold electrodes 13. 14 between which an auxiliary discharge takes place. The wall 1 consists of quartz or of the material known under the registered Trade name " Uviol " and is secured through a graded seal to a glass portion 2. The main discharge occurs between an incandescent cathode 3 and hollow anodes 5 within which are mounted magnesium rods 10 adapted to produce the vapour filling. A quartz member 18 prevents a discharge between the anodes. The electrodes 13, 14 are helically wound in each other and are secured together through a glass bead 15. A glass cylinder 11 is secured to the pinch through a gauze ring 12, vapour circulating through the tube being deposited thereon. The filling may consist of magnesium or sodium with a rare gas at a pressure of 150 mm.
