Abstract
361,583. Insulators. JOHNSON & PHILLIPS, Ltd., Charlton, London, and STEVENS, C. J. H., Rue du Bois, Central Avenue, Welling, Kent. Nov. 6, 1930, No. 33400. [Class 36.] An oil-filled insulator A comprises a central bore a<1> through which passes a conductor E carrying a cable terminal at its free end. In order that the conductor portion may expand freely in a longitudinal direction, a gland and packing adapted to engage and hold a flange fitting F on the conductor E are provided. The packing gland preferably consists in a metal sleeve T fitted over, and cemented on, a reduced end a<2> of the insulator A. The other end of the sleeve T receives a gland-nut H. The flange fitting F may be formed with a flange f. Fluidtight packing is provided between the fitting F and the insulator end.. A centralling spider K on the conductor E may fit a recess a<4> on the lower end of the insulator. The insulator is secured in the opening of a cable box or the like by a flange a<5> on which is fitted a packing washer B held in position by a clamping ring C secured by screws D.
