Abstract
360,049. Road surface signs. CROXFORD, G. R., 36, Nightingale Road, Hampton-on-Thames. June 27, 1930, No. 21019/31. Divided on 360,000. [Class 3 (ii). In traffic guidance signs of the type comprising a transparent or translucent element located over illuminating means inserted under ground level, the lamp, or lamps, 6 is protected from damage by shock by being mounted upon a resilient support which is located within a metal container 2 in such a manner that a transparent cover 4 can, when desired, be detached from the container without disturbing the support or lamp. The support may be of rubber or be a spring 11. Thermally or otherwise mouldable cement may be filled in between the element 4 and its frame 3, and between the frame 3 and the road surface 1. A grating &c. may be inserted above, below, or in, the element 4. The lamps may be of different colours, and their lighting may be controlled for signalling purposes. A locking pin or screw is provided to prevent unauthorized removal of the cover &c., and the frame 3 may have holes or projections to facilitate manipulation. Figures, letters, &c., may be formed in, on, or by the element 4 or its frame 3. Specification 346,335 is referred to.
