Abstract

358,606. Refrigerating. LEHMANN, B., 16, Schillingstrasse, Reinickendorf, Berlin. July 16, 1930, No. 21537. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1929. [Class 29.] Absorption systems.-For the removal of air and foreign gases, such as decomposition products of the refrigerant, from closed cycle absorption systems, the mixture of refrigerant vapour and foreign gases is led into direct contact with cooled weak solution in a vessel which may be isolated by valves from the refrigerating circuit, whereby loss of refrigerant is minimized when the foreign gases are discharged. The invention is described as applied to a system comprising a generator 1, a condenser 2, an evaporator 4, a reabsorber 3, a cold-producing generator 5 and an absorber 6. Vapour from the generator 1 passes to the condenser 2 and the liquefied refrigerant passes an expansion valve to the evaporator 4, whence vapour flows to the reabsorber. Strong liquor passes from the reabsorber through a heat exchanger 14 and a pressure reducing valve to the cold generator 5, from which evolved vapour passes to the absorber 6 and weak liquor is pumped back to the reabsorber. The weak liquor from the generator passes through a pipe 7 and interchanger to the air removal device 8 before reaching the absorber, from which strong liquor is pumped back to the generator. The weak liquor in pipe 7 is cooled by water or brine in a jacket 9 before it reaches the device 8 and is thus in a condition to absorb nearly all the refrigerant vapour from the gas mixture discharged through a valve 17. A throttle valve 21 is provided in the pipe 7 and a similar valve 20 in the absorber. A connecting pipe 10 with control valves 11, 12, 15 enables the device 8 to be used for discharging gases from the condenser and reabsorber. Gases may also be discharged by way of valves 15, 23 and a device 22 in the weak liquor pipe 13 from the cold generator to the reabsorber. When the pressure in the system is below atmospheric a water jet ejector may be used to effect the discharge of the gases.
