Abstract

Azo dyes, chromium compounds of; lakes.-Chromium compounds of azo dyes of the type obtainable by coupling diazotized o-aminonaphthols or substitution products thereof with pyrazolones are heated with dilute sulphuric acid with or without pressure. The treatment is stated to result in elimination of chromium sulphate with production of chromed azo dyes differing from the dyes treated. In an example the chromium compound, obtained by chroming in absence of mineral acid, the dyestuff, 1 : 2 - aminonaphthol - 4 - sulphonic acid --> 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, is heated under pressure for 20 hrs. at 120 DEG C. with dilute sulphuric acid; the sodium salt of the product dyes wool from an acid bath a bright rose colour whereas the initial chromium compound gives a dull blueish red dyeing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of o-aminophenols as diazo components. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
